The Full Production
Process -- Step by Step.
From raw pellets to finished, coiled medical tubing -- every stage of the extrusion process is designed for dimensional consistency, material integrity, and downstream traceability.
Material Drying & Feeding
Medical-grade resin pellets are pre-dried in a dehumidifying hopper dryer to the manufacturer's specified moisture content. A gravimetric or volumetric feeder delivers a consistent, controlled feed rate to the extruder.
Melt Extrusion
The single-screw extruder melts and homogenises the resin through precisely zoned barrel heaters. Melt pressure and temperature are monitored in real time. The melt passes through a screen pack and adaptor before entering the tubing die.
Vacuum Sizing & Cooling
The extruded tube enters a vacuum calibration sleeve that sets the outer diameter. A series of water-cooling troughs then bring the tube to dimensional stability. Water temperature and flow rate are controlled for consistent crystallisation.
Haul-Off & Cutting / Coiling
A servo-driven caterpillar haul-off unit draws the tube at a constant, programmable speed. Downstream options include a rotary cutter for fixed-length tubes, or a precision coiler with tension control for continuous-reel output.
Inline Dimensional Gauging
A non-contact laser OD measurement system monitors outer diameter continuously. Alarm thresholds trigger automatic adjustments or line stops when dimensions drift outside tolerance.
Spark / Pinhole Testing
An inline high-voltage spark tester detects micro-pinholes and wall defects in real time. Defective sections are flagged or rejected before coiling, ensuring zero-defect downstream delivery.
Printing & Marking
Optional inline inkjet or laser marking applies lot numbers, OD/wall specs, material grade, or customer branding at user-defined intervals along the tube length.
Packaging & Dispatch
Finished tubes are packaged in clean-room compatible bags or spools per your specification. Export cartons with desiccant and foam protection are prepared for sea or air freight.
Quality Control
At Every Critical Node.
Medical tube production demands zero tolerance for dimensional drift, surface defects, or material contamination. Our lines embed quality checkpoints at every critical stage of the process.
QC-01 · Incoming Material Verification
Raw material certificates (CoA) are reviewed against grade specifications. Resin lots are checked for MFI, moisture content, and color consistency before entering the drying hopper.
QC-02 · Extrusion Parameter Monitoring
Barrel zone temperatures, melt pressure, screw speed, and motor amperage are logged continuously. The PLC control system triggers alarms for any parameter deviation, enabling immediate operator intervention.
QC-03 · Inline Laser OD Gauging
A non-contact laser micrometer measures outer diameter continuously in real time. Upper and lower control limits are set to your drawing tolerance. Out-of-spec events are logged and can trigger automatic haul-off speed correction.
QC-04 · Wall Thickness Sampling
Periodic cross-section samples are measured using an ultrasonic wall thickness gauge or optical comparator. Minimum, maximum, and average wall values at multiple clock positions are recorded against the drawing specification.
QC-05 · Inline Spark / Pinhole Testing
A high-voltage electrode encircles the tube and detects any micro-void or pinhole in the wall. Each defect triggers a counter increment and, optionally, a marking or ejection signal to the downstream cutter.
QC-06 · Pre-Shipment Line Acceptance
Before the line leaves the factory, a full trial run is conducted using your specified material (or a close equivalent). Sample tubes are measured, inspected, and documented. You receive a trial-run report and can confirm samples before shipment is authorised.
Confirming Finished Tube
Quality & Appearance.
The final acceptance stage confirms that every finished tube meets your dimensional drawing, surface quality standard, and visual appearance criteria -- before it leaves the production floor.
Dimensional Verification
Sample tubes from each production lot are measured with calibrated instruments: digital micrometer for OD, ball-probe gauge for ID, and optical comparator or cross-section microscopy for wall thickness uniformity.
- OD & ID against drawing tolerance
- Wall thickness uniformity (ovality)
- Cut-length accuracy
Surface & Appearance Inspection
Each tube is visually inspected under controlled lighting for surface defects. Acceptable appearance criteria are defined in a written inspection standard agreed with the customer before production.
- No surface streaks, gels, or flow lines
- No pits, scratches, or contamination
- Colour consistency across the lot
Functional & Mechanical Tests
Representative samples undergo functional tests to confirm the tube performs as intended in its end application. Test methods and acceptance criteria are agreed with the customer in advance.
- Kink resistance & bend radius test
- Burst pressure & flow-through test
- Tensile strength & elongation
Customer Sample Confirmation
Before the line is dispatched, trial-run tube samples are shipped to the customer for independent verification. Shipment is authorised only after written sample approval is received, eliminating post-delivery disputes.
- Trial-run samples shipped to customer
- Written approval before dispatch
