Configured to
Your Exact Spec.
No two production environments are the same. Every parameter of your extrusion line is selected and configured based on your specific requirements -- from raw material to final product dimensions.
Raw Material
Screw geometry, barrel temperature zones, and die design are matched to your specific material -- PP, PS, PET, PLA, PBAT, or blends.
Straw Dimensions
Outer diameter, inner diameter, wall thickness, and cut length are all configurable. Supports standard beverage straws, cocktail straws, jumbo straws, and custom sizes.
Output & Speed
Line speed, extruder capacity, and number of output strands are selected to match your required daily or hourly output volume.
Color & Appearance
Single color, transparent, multi-color stripe, and gradient options. Color masterbatch dosing system can be integrated for on-line color adjustment.
Electrical Standards
Voltage, frequency, and plug/socket configurations are matched to your country's standards -- 220V/50Hz, 380V/60Hz, or other local requirements.
OEM / ODM
Non-standard configurations, special die designs, or unique downstream equipment? We coordinate custom solutions with our partner manufacturing network.
How Straws Are Made:
The Full Process Flow.
A complete straw extrusion line covers every stage from raw material feeding to finished straw output. Each station is configured and calibrated to your specific product and material requirements.
01
Raw Material Feeding
Pellets or granules are loaded into the hopper. A drying system removes moisture -- critical for PLA and PET materials to prevent degradation during extrusion.
02
Extrusion & Melting
The extruder screw conveys, compresses, and melts the material through precisely controlled temperature zones. Screw design is matched to each material type.
03
Die Head Forming
Molten material passes through the die head and mandrel, forming the hollow tube profile. Die dimensions determine the straw outer diameter and wall thickness.
04
Vacuum Sizing & Cooling
The extruded tube enters a vacuum sizing tank filled with cooling water. The vacuum holds the tube against the sizing sleeve to maintain dimensional accuracy.
05
Secondary Cooling
A second cooling tank ensures the straw is fully solidified and dimensionally stable before entering the haul-off unit, preventing deformation under traction force.
06
Haul-Off & Traction
The caterpillar haul-off unit pulls the straw at a controlled, constant speed. Line speed directly affects wall thickness and dimensional consistency.
07
Cutting to Length
An automatic rotary or planetary cutter trims straws to your specified length. Cutting speed is synchronized with line speed for clean, consistent cuts.
08
Collection & Stacking
Finished straws are automatically collected, counted, and stacked or bundled. Output can be directed to an automatic counting and packaging system.

Controlled at Every
Stage of Production.
Quality is built into the process, not inspected at the end. Each critical station in the extrusion line includes dedicated quality checkpoints to catch deviations before they propagate downstream.
Raw Material Incoming Inspection
- Material grade and lot verification against purchase specification
- Moisture content check -- especially critical for PLA, PET, and PBAT
- Melt flow index (MFI) measurement to confirm material processability
- Visual inspection for contamination, discoloration, or irregular pellet shape
Extrusion Parameter Monitoring
- Barrel and die temperature zone monitoring throughout production
- Screw speed and motor current tracking for stable melt output
- Melt pressure monitoring at die head for consistent flow
- Alert thresholds set for automatic deviation notification
Dimensional Measurement -- In-Line
- Online laser or contact gauge measures outer diameter continuously
- Haul-off speed adjusted in real time to maintain target wall thickness
- Diameter deviation alarms trigger operator correction before defects accumulate
- Sample straws pulled at regular intervals for offline micrometer verification
Cutting Length & End Quality
- Cut length verified against specification using calibrated measurement tools
- Cut end inspected for burrs, tearing, or angular deviation
- Cutter blade condition monitored; replacement schedule maintained
- Sample batch length measurement recorded in production log
Final Product Sampling & Acceptance
- Dimensional check: OD, ID, wall thickness, and length on finished straws
- Straightness and bend resistance test per customer or internal standard
- Color consistency visual check under standardized lighting
- Packaging count verification and defect-rate sampling before shipment approval
Surface Finish &
Visual Consistency.
For consumer-facing straw products, visual quality is as important as dimensional accuracy. The following controls ensure every straw leaving the line meets your appearance standard.
Surface Smoothness
Melt temperature, cooling rate, and vacuum sizing pressure are balanced to produce a smooth, glossy outer surface free of drag marks, roughness, or matte patches.
- No surface drag lines
- Consistent gloss level
- Smooth inner bore
Color Uniformity
Masterbatch dosing, melt temperature stability, and purging procedures are managed to ensure consistent color across the full production run -- no streaks, fading, or batch-to-batch variation.
- No color streaks
- Consistent shade per run
- Clean color transitions
Stripe Alignment (Stripe Straws)
For multi-color stripe straws, stripe width, spacing, and edge sharpness are controlled through co-extrusion die calibration and consistent line speed.
- Uniform stripe width
- Sharp color boundaries
- Consistent stripe spacing
Straightness
Cooling tank temperature uniformity and haul-off tension balance prevent bowing or curling. Finished straws are checked against a flat surface reference for straightness acceptance.
- No bowing or curling
- Flat reference check
- Consistent haul-off tension
Cut End Quality
Cutter blade sharpness and cutting speed synchronization produce clean, perpendicular cut ends without burrs, tearing, or deformation of the tube opening.
- No burrs or tearing
- Perpendicular cut face
- Clean tube opening
Defect Rejection Protocol
A defined defect classification (critical / major / minor) and sampling plan ensures non-conforming straws are identified, segregated, and not included in outgoing shipments.
- Defect classification defined
- Sampling plan in place
- Segregation of rejects

Frequently Asked
Questions.
Can you configure a line for my specific straw diameter and wall thickness?
Yes. The die head, mandrel, and sizing sleeve are all specified to your target outer diameter, inner diameter, and wall thickness. Please share your product dimensions and we will confirm the appropriate configuration.
Which materials can the line process?
For drinking straws: PP, PS, and PET are standard. For biodegradable straws: PLA, PBAT, and PLA/PBAT blends. If you use a different material or blend, please let us know and we will advise on compatibility.
Can I produce striped or multi-color straws?
Yes. Stripe straws require a co-extrusion die head with separate color channels. The number and width of stripes can be configured to your specification.
Do you support my country's electrical voltage and standards?
Yes. Electrical components -- motors, control panels, heaters, and plugs -- are configured to your local voltage and frequency (e.g., 220V/50Hz, 380V/60Hz, 440V/60Hz, or others). Please specify your local standard when inquiring.
Is there a trial run before shipment?
Yes. A factory trial run is standard. You can request sample straws for confirmation before the line is approved for shipment.
Do you provide installation and training support?
Yes. Installation guidance and commissioning support are provided on-site or remotely depending on your location. Operator training covering startup, parameter setting, and routine maintenance is included.
What is the lead time for a complete line?
Lead time depends on line configuration and factory schedule. Please contact us with your requirements for a specific timeline estimate.
